DIY Jute Rope Planter with Succulents

1 -DIY rope planterOkay, so creative post titles is obviously not one of my strengths.  So let’s get on to some crafting!2 - DIY rope planter materialsThis is one of those I-need-to-do-something-with-my-hands while having the TV on in the background kinda projects where I just went rummaging around to see what I had on hand.  I had some jute and string, a votive from our wedding (how many more of those do we have? And how long has it been since our wedding?), and some gauzy ribbon from a rug I had delivered.3 - making rope and wraping with ribbonSince my jute was thin, I combined several individual pieces twisting them together for a thicker core.  I glue gunned my gauzy ribbon and got to wrapping.5.5 - wrapping ropeWhen that ran out, I started wrapping the jute with the string.  It felt very reminiscent of making friendship bracelets in elementary school.4 - wrapping rope on votiveI hot glue gunned my finished rope to the vase of the votive and started creating a shape.5 - removing ribbonThe gauzy ribbon looked like some sorta bad mummy accessory (and I’m not decorating for Halloween yet, it’s still summer, darnit!) so I ripped all that stuff off and started over.6 - hot gluing rope to votiveSee, no more mummy bandages!  As I made my way up the votive, I hot glued the rope to itself and not the votive to create my desired shape.7 - succulent in rope planter on media consoleThen I stuck some succulents in it and called it a night.  My mini planter has a happy home right in front of my other jute string project.  I guess I really like that stuff!

What creative crafts have you come up with using leftover wedding supplies?  What’s your favorite decorative use of jute?

    How about, “Hey, Jute” (sing it in your head like “Hey Jude”)? I know, I always go to song titles. :D

    So simple, but it looks terrific.

    {P.S. I am really enjoying your new layout.}

      Haha, I love it (and didn’t even need the hint)! If you were closer I’d bribe you with CL goodies to write my post titles ; ] Any decisions on the bed frame yet?

      Thanks! I switched to self-hosted and now I’m just playing around with colors and whatnot.
